The Marlins English Language Tests were created collaboratively by experts in testing and subject matter, and have been piloted globally. This process has significantly enhanced the tests' validity and reliability.

Oriana has partnered with UK's Marlins to assist employers in promptly and affordably assessing the language proficiency of seafarers

ISF Marlins English Language Test For Seafarers:

Each test consists of a total of 85 questions broken down into the following categories:

  • ● Listening comprehension (25 Questions)
  • ● Grammar (30 Questions)
  • ● Vocabulary (15 Questions)
  • ● Time and numbers (5 Questions)
  • ● Different sounds and pronunciation (9 Questions)
  • ● Reading (1 Questions)

There is no time limit, but the recommended maximum time is 60 minutes.

Marlins English Language Test For Cruise Ship Staff:

Each test consists of a total of 50 questions broken down into the following categories:

  • ● Listening comprehension (14 Questions)
  • ● Grammar (19 Questions)
  • ● Vocabulary (12 Questions)
  • ● Reading (1 Questions)
  • ● Time and numbers (4 Questions)

There is no time limit, but the recommended maximum time is 30 minutes.

Marlins English Language Test For Offshore Workers:

Each test consists of a total of 85 questions broken down into the following categories:

  • ● Listening comprehension (28 Questions)
  • ● Grammar (28 Questions)
  • ● Vocabulary (17 Questions)
  • ● Reading (1 Questions)
  • ● Time and numbers (6 Questions)

There is no time limit, but the recommended maximum time is 60 minutes.

UK MCA Approved Courses
STCW Security Awareness:-

All seafarers, regardless of rank and department, need to have an STCW security awareness certificate, even if they do not have designated duties on board. This course aims to increase crew members' awareness of security threats, how to maintain the security of the vessel and heighten their security awareness.

  • ● Vessels:- Cargo and Cruise
  • ● Duration:- 1.5 hours
  • ● Approved:- MCA, LISCR & IOM
  • ● Regulation:- STCW A-VI/6
STCW Security Duties:-

Seafarers holding specific security responsibilities onboard must possess an STCW security duties certificate. This training program is designed to inform crew members about potential ship threats and vulnerabilities, along with understanding security system capabilities and limitations. It also encompasses ship security plan maintenance and effective security arrangement upkeep.

  • ● Vessels:- Cargo and Cruise
  • ● Duration:- 2.5 hours
  • ● Approved:- MCA, LISCR & IOM
  • ● Regulation:- STCW A-VI/6
Bahamas Flag Approved Course
STCW Basic Safety Training:-

Following regulation as per section A-VI/1 Of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for seafarers 1995/2010, as amended.

STCW Crowd Management:-

During an emergency, passenger safety is of the utmost importance. This course provides guidance on assisting passengers in an emergency, how to deal with large crowds whilst ensuring their safe movement, and discusses human behavior in situations of urgency, the course required for all seafarers who deal with passengers regularly.

  • ● Required for:- All crew members.
  • ● Vessels:- Passenger
  • ● Duration:- 1.5 hours
  • ● Approved:- MCA, LISCR & Dominica
  • ● Regulation:- STCW A-V/2
STCW Crisis Management & Human Behavior:-

In a vessel emergency, prioritizing passenger safety is crucial. This course emphasizes utilizing emergency plans, managing passenger and crew stress, and handling passengers effectively during crises. It is intended for seafarers with passenger responsibilities during emergencies.

  • ● Vessels:- Passenger
  • ● Duration:- 2.5 hours
  • ● Approved:- MCA, LISCR & Dominica approved
  • ● Regulation:- STCW A-V/2

The Marlins Test helps ship operators show that seafarers have been evaluated on their English communication skills, a requirement emphasized by the ISM Code and the updated STCW Convention.
